What is an Item Upgrader in Pokemon Go?

Costs

Upgrades have a few associated costs. The first is the cost for the upgrade. It can be costly and depends on the new level of the item as well as the number of perks it gets. Upgrades to higher levels (such as Explorer to Champion or Veteran to Heroic) are costly.

Rarely, the advantages gained will cost more than one perk slot; in these situations the upgrade will replace the highest-cost perks. Occasionally, the upgrader will make other changes to an item, for example, changing the damage type of a weapon or or removing an operative or unwieldy property. The cost of these changes is based on the item's current ilvl and it could require a special substance, such as adamantine alloy.

Success Rate

Upgrades to items are based on an opportunity, and like any random system, there is an opportunity that the upgrade will fail. However there are a few things that can help to increase the chance of success. This includes the use of an Upgrade Pity, or the addition of additional materials to your upgrade.

An Upgrade Pity is an item you can buy from the smithing NPC in Lost Ark. It increases the odds of an upgrade succeeding by some percentage. It is similar to the luck bonus some items have but is more solid. It can be added to any weapons or armor, and is used three times.

You can also add other materials to the upgrade item to increase its chances of success. These are shown in a window that is above the + button. There are some limitations. The maximum amount of material you can add is displayed directly above the + button.

A Blacksmith Blessing or an upgraded version, can be used to boost the odds of an upgrade succeeding. This item is useful in the event that your item or weapon is near or has reached the highest level of its tier. This item allows you to upgrade the equipment to the next tier without risking its breaking.

If an upgrade is unsuccessful the upgrade will be reversed to its initial state. This is usually a downgrade, but can also be an upgrade. It is recommended to save an upgrade when you are close to the maximum level of an item, and to use it as a last resort.
