Buying a Pram Newborn

Parents and caregivers can rely on prams and pushchairs to be multi-functional and versatile. They are the co-pilots for your child's journey.

A pram newborn is dedicated to newborns and babies. It has a deep, sturdy carrycot with soft and secure walls.

A pram comes with a bassinet. However, it can be converted to a stroller when the baby is ready.

Safety

Newborns need to be secured as much as possible. A pram pushchair or stroller with safety features will ensure that your baby is secure and comfortable while traveling. A pram or stroller must have a break that works and a 5-point harness (2 shoulder straps; 2 waist straps; and a crotch belt) and a wrist tether for the person driving it. Make sure that the pram you choose is up to the standards before you purchase.

Look for a pram that allows your baby to ride in the recommended lying flat position. This position is supportive for the baby and helps prevent the risk of a dangerous curve in the spine which can cause spinal problems. By keeping the airways open, it reduces the chance of SUID (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or Asphyxiation). Most prams can be used as early as the moment of birth. They come with an adjustable seat that reclines to lay flat for infants. It can also be converted into a pushchair unit for older children.

The suspension on prams is vital because it affects how smooth the ride is. A pram that has a lot of spring suspension will be more expensive, but it is worth the extra expense if you plan to use your pram each for a while or longer.

Always read the directions and read the warning labels on your pram or folding stroller. Also, ensure that your stroller is parked in a safe location free of bicycles, traffic or any other dangers when it isn't being used. You should also remove any bags or other objects from the handles as they could cause your baby to become caught or suffocate.

Even if your baby is asleep, it's never a good idea to leave a pram or stroller unattended. They may squirm into the pram and become trapped, or it could be pushed away and cause injuries. It's not a good idea to hang bags or other items on the handles since they could fall and strike your baby's head.

Comfort

Possibility of lying flat seating is a necessity for babies, because it helps improve back and lung development. Many prams have a carrycot or cocoon that creates a cozy nest-like atmosphere for your baby and can be easily detached from the frame. Some seats, such as the bucket-style seat on egg2, can't be reclined completely flat, but they provide the comfort of your child.

Some prams also feature an extra bassinet, newborn inset or stroller seat, so you can easily switch between sitting and sleeping modes according to your baby's needs. This is often called a "travel system" and is the initial option to try out with your newborn.

Look for a pram with two straps for the shoulder that are ideally padded and a five-point safety harness. It should fit your baby's body snugly. Be sure there aren't gaps or areas that are loose where fingers could get trapped, and that the buckles are easy to use - especially for older children. Also, consider if you'd like a parent-facing pram. It is great to keep an eye on your child, and makes them feel more secure having their parents around.

Convenience

When buying a pram newborn it is important to consider your baby's needs for transport. Some prams include an infant bassinet, carrycot or a seat that reclines to an upright position. This is crucial for your baby's spinal development and breathing. You should also check what other accessories are included in the pram, like a footmuff or a changing bag. These are essential to keep your baby warm when it's cold.

Some strollers and prams can be converted into travel systems. You can connect a car pod to a frame using adaptors, so you can transfer your child from the car to the pram without disturbing them. These are great when you have a busy schedule or you do not have enough space in your car boot to accommodate the pram. However, you should be aware that you'll need to wait until your child is old enough to sit by themselves before you can transform them from a car capsule into the folding pushchair.

Another feature you may want to keep an eye on is the possibility of raising and lowering the infant's seat from a low to a high setting, which helps maintain eye contact with them and keeps them close to you. Finally, make sure your pram newborn has a solid base and wheels that can withstand potholes and bumps. Ensure that you can fold it up easily and ensure that the safety harness you use is safe, fits comfortably and securely (five-point rather than three-point) and is able to be adjusted as your child grows. You will also be able to store shopping and changing bags inside the basket beneath (although remember that loading the pram with excessive weight can cause it to tip over).
