WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item upgrader kit level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item that is used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item upgrading and the current item level. For example, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through several methods, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade item to a particular item level upgrade level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to that level will cost less, even when they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

Crests
