1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a good option for those looking for a an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but want to manually empty the dustbin of the robot when it is full.

Both robots are adept at picking up surface debris on hard floors and carpets, and they're very adept in maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart map of your home to aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean efficiently. The i3+ doesn't have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we have tested. It may be stuck on power cords and socks and have trouble moving between surfaces, such as rug and hardwood.

iRobot suggests that you clear areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, and include putting away any clutter or toys it might encounter. Also, keep the dustbin and filter clear to avoid becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station and automatically takes the dirt out of the docking station's dust bin. It then continues cleaning where it started. Battery life is about an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes three hours to fully charge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the latest technology. It is self-charging and self-navigating. But the most important feature is its auto-emptying bin. This removes the need for routine maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, an application that allows it to map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can control your robot via the app or voice.

In our tests the i7+ performed quicker and more maneuverable than our top choice which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces kinds including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, though, is its self-emptying dustbin that eliminates a major source of maintenance and cuts down on the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to start, stop, or pause cleaning sessions and also to move around the room, and even vacuum a specific area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. After being connected, to speak commands to the i7+, for example "Hey Alexa best automatic vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and evaluating the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of cordless vacs that look like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model is an automobile. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for most households and can fit nicely on the coffee table or a bookshelf where you can wave it around like an enchanted wand.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system is able to trap allergens and then releases cleaner air into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpets to trap large particles and fine dust. It comes with three suction modes that can be adjusted to the task. It quickly switches from handheld to floor vacuum and back again.

This model comes with a dock that can charge the Dyson to 100% within 3.5 hours. It also offers the ability to connect two attachments as well as a Wand. This is a significant improvement over older Dysons models, that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The V10's biggest drawback is its sluggish run time. As CR's tests show, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are not true. This is a standard battery-powered cordless vacuum's run time. It's still enough time to clean most of a typical-sized home however, it's not enough to get every single spot (though an additional run-through often will suffice). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeable superior on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums The 694 is an entry-level model that's an excellent choice for people who don't want to invest too much on a robotic. It's capable of sucking up a variety of types of debris and sizes during our tests, and often passes over the same areas multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front end helps to get into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice addition.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and guide you through your home. It's not equipped with the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, including our top picks, i3+EVO and J7+ Series. It can get stuck on cords for phones or furniture that is low and will often run out of power before returning to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694, as it has less parts that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower cost of recurring costs and has more advanced automation abilities and is better able to move itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges quicker.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries and can be controlled using your smartphone's voice assistance. It is also more durable, has a stronger motor, and performs better on floors with bare or low-pile.

5. Samsung Jet bot cleaner AI+

Samsung is a brand you see on all sorts of home electronics It's no surprise that they're also one of the most popular mop and robot vacuum manufacturers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard technology to aid in navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app offers a variety of options to customize your robotic cleaner, including virtual barriers mopping water levels, behavior modification docking frequency settings and much more. It's easy to understand and is user-friendly, which is the case with other Samsung devices.

In our testing of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86% of it. It didn't do very well in avoiding taller objects like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models that we tested, and this could be a deal breaker for certain shoppers.

The app lets you access the camera onboard of the smart vacuum. You can also create live streaming from the robot's area of cleaning. This feature lets you monitor your pets or the kids if you're away from home. The dustbin and the filter can be cleaned to ensure a quick, painless clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean and tidy station that self-empties to keep the robot's dustbin clean and optimizes suction power for each cleaning run.

In contrast to other robotic vacuums which are designed for both carpets and hard floors, Black and Decker robots are specifically designed for hard floors. The app allows you to steer the robot manually, if necessary. For instance my living room rug has a darkly colored border that tends to make it difficult for other robots I've tested.
