WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. For example upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item upgrade from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display a preview of an item level upgrade's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item upgrading and the current item level upgrade level. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available in many places, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of getting the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through various methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain level for an item upgrader mod in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will be less expensive, even in the event that they belong to another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut also, but is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it will bring some modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once an item is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their gear up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests wisely, as they only have one use. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the best gear that you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
