WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item upgrades has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of armor or weapons. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool using an The button will show the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and current item upgrade level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item Level Upgrade has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Upgraders for items are available in many places including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require a variety of means that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was modified a bit, and several new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a certain level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to that same Best item upgrader level will cost less even in the event that they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have a number of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one use, so it's important to use them wisely. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
