World of Warcraft - Item Upgrade

Item upgrades allow players to raise the item level of armor and weapons that can be equipped. This boosts the stats of that gear, as well as sometimes adding buffs or the rerolling of an affix.

Cost

The amount of Gold required to upgrade an item increases as the item is upgraded to an upper level.

Upgraded items will also have improved stats that can improve its performance in a variety of ways. This could mean increasing the power of its attack critical strike chance, or damage per second. The upgraded item can also provide additional buffs to the unit it's equipped with. These upgrades are able to boost the overall strength of a group or unit, and could significantly impact the gameplay.

The items can be upgraded at any item upgrader NPC in the game. Generally NPCs can be found in capital cities or major questing areas. Players can also find upgraders in dungeons that have high-level bosses, or by talking to NPCs in their garrisons for their faction.

The upgrade system for items in World of Warcraft provides players with the option of upgrading the levels of weapons, armor, and trinkets. This procedure is similar to the reforging of gear in Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor. However instead of using currency, players have to visit an item upgrader to complete the process.

Upgrades to items can be costly, especially when it is related to armor and weapons. Based on the upgrade path you select, each item level increase can cost Valorstones or Crests. The cost can be prohibitive for players who do not have the resources or are unable to grind.

Fortunately, the game allows players to roll an upgraded item upgrader kit using a special tool in the items menu. Requirements

Certain upgraded items can only be rerolled if the initial item was a Unique Epic, Rare or Rare. Extraordinary items are also eligible for rerolling, but their original stats will be replaced by a flat bonus. This means that rerolling a Rare item will result in a normal version of the same kind, while rolling an Epic item will result in an elite version of the same kind.

Rewards

During the upgrade process, an item will gradually advance to its next level but it's not always able to reach a full upgrade bar. This process uses Growthstones and Sollant, but there is the chance to obtain a fully upgraded item with only one cycle of growth. Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons in order to gain an attribute bonus or to create a unique effect while the equipment is being worn. Some upgrade components also come with cosmetic effects. Upgrade components can be acquired by crafting, buying from vendors or the Trading Post, looting or receiving them as gifts. In addition, players can recover upgraded items by using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them with a salvage kit. Glyphs that are placed on gathering tools can be freely swapped.

By selecting the item and pressing the green button that has a rerolling arrow players can roll it into an upgradeable item. This will alter the layout and allow players to choose up to six items to be used for "recycling". The item that is recycled will be exchanged for a level 1 item similar to it. Recycled items don't keep their current level or amount of resources used to upgrade them.

The maximum level of upgrade for an item is determined by the item's level and its quality. Rare and Epic items can be upgraded to levels of nine, whereas common items can only be upgraded up to level six. Item upgrades are added to the item's base statistics and won't increase after a specific point.
