The Roomba j7+ is iRobot's most intelligent robot vacuum to date. Its biggest innovation is its camera-based obstacle detection system. It uses AI to detect objects such as charging cords and shoes. In our tests the j7+ performed quick to clean up dust dirt, pet hair and even pet hair. The counter-rotating rubber brushes kept the debris in place, instead of scattering it across the floor. It was able capture sand, small gravel and even a little grit. Most robots could not achieve this feat. It did all of this without getting caught in our pet's shedding hair.

The j7+, although not as sophisticated as the Roomba S9 for $1,217and Self-Emptying Vacuum Robot from iRobot and cannot clean the stairs, is still an option for those who need both mopping and a vacuum. It's not expensive, and the iRobot app makes it very user-friendly.

Although the iRobot Home app is very easy to use however we've found it be less reliable than other applications that work with robotic cleaners. It can take a while to download updates, and it's sometimes difficult to determine whether they're working until you actually see them in action.

2. Roborock Q5+

If you're looking for an automated vacuum cleaner that can do more than just clean floors, your best option is probably a hybrid. This kind of robot usually has a built-in water tank, meaning they can both vacuum and mop your house at the same time. They also have a number of extra features, including smart mapping, small obstacle avoidance, and even the capability to dry and wash mopping pads. They're expensive at full retail but often come down in price on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Roborock has some of our favorite robot vacuums and the Q5+ is no exception. This is their least expensive auto-empty model, and although it doesn't have some of the premium features that are found on more expensive models (like no-go zones and multi-story memory) it's still a great choice if you're willing to sacrifice a little to save a few hundred dollars.

The Q5+ is remarkably gentle when it comes to obstacles like tables and walls. This makes it an ideal option for homes with a lot of furniture. It's also extremely thorough in cleaning dust bunnies. This is a area where many robot vacuums that are less expensive fall short. The navigation technology in the Q5+ is superb and has very few missed corners and along walls.

The Q5+, just like other Roborock products can be controlled via a few buttons on the device or via the Roborock App. Through the app, you can start and stop cleanings and schedules, as well as create virtual barriers and no-go zones, and adjust your home map or re-label rooms.

It is a relatively small base station that looks beautiful and is able to be concealed when not in use. The station's most appealing factor is its ability to automate many tasks and functions that other robots leave to you. It can keep clean and dirty water and electrolyze and heat the water. Many other robots require you to do this.

Its vacuuming performance is quite impressive as well. It's the only robot vacuum I've tried that does an excellent job of removing dirt from floors that aren't. It's also not as loud as the costly Roomba 900 series or iRobot 980.

But the Freo X Ultra has its flaws, particularly in terms of navigation. Its laser and LiDAR sensors aren't as reliable as other robovacs, meaning it is sometimes stuck or confused in certain rooms or corners of the home. It's not able to climb stairs as well as competitors, and it doesn't have a dock that lets you to set up a dedicated cleaning zone for plush carpets.

The Freo X Ultra robot vacuum and mop is an excellent choice for those who want an automated vacuum that can do it all.

If you're looking for a way to save money or don't mind the limitations of the robot, there are plenty of other options on the market. Many eufy models cost substantially less. The eufy Qrevo Curv, for instance is less expensive and offers a similar in-app experience with more features, including the ability to climb stairs, a full-function dock, and superior overall performance when vacuuming floors and low and high-pile carpets.

Eufy, a Anker company, has a track record of making robot vacuums that strike a good balance between performance, features and price. The G30 Hybrid is no different and offers a powerful cleaning of hard floors and mopping, carpets and other surfaces at an affordable price point. It's easy to setup, just snap one of the side brushes on, turn it on, and plug it into the charging dock. The app will guide you through the steps required to connect your G30 to your Wi-Fi. The dock should be placed near an outlet and have plenty of space to move.

The G30 is small, 2.85 inches tall to be exact, which means it can be tucked away under couches and other furniture with a low clearance. The design is more modest than other models, and features a sleek black finish and three physical buttons such as Auto Cleaning start/pause, Recharge and Spot Clean (which scrubs an area in spiral patterns for 2 minutes). You can also connect the G30 to amazon robot vacuum Alexa or Google Home for voice commands to perform routine cleaning tasks that are not scheduled.

The way the G30 cleans is what differentiates it from its competitors. It uses an integrated map to draw an image of the unmovable objects in its path. It keeps track of the items it has cleaned and the areas it was unable to access. It will return to the base to recharge and then continues cleaning where it left off.

The elegant G30 has a few flaws. The iRobot Roomba 675 is much better constructed, has lower recurring costs, is charged faster and has a similar battery life. It also offers better performance on bare floors and carpets with low pile. It also has a larger dust bin that doesn't have to be empty as often and comes with a set of boundary strips to ensure it isn't in certain areas. The G30 is, on the other hand is less expensive and much simpler to maintain. Its smaller size means that it doesn't need to be emptied as often and it's less difficulty with bulky items like cereal.
