Path of Exile Item Upgrading

In Path of Exile, item upgrading is among the best ways to improve your gear without relying upon massive drops or trade. This article will help you understand how to upgrade your items.

Upgrades to equipment provide an increase to the item's base stats. This bonus is based on the upgrade component's level and rarity.

Components

Upgrade components are the parts that can make your weapons and armor better. You can acquire them by destroying enemies, finding them in spheres of items or purchasing them from karma sellers. You can also salvage them from equipment that contains the components or by using salvage kits of high-end quality, such as Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components aren't destroyed when you remove them from the item.

Upgrade components are mostly used to improve an item however, they can also be used for other purposes. They can be stacked to increase the level of an upgradeable item, or they can be used to boost the experience gained by upgrading an existing weapon or piece of equipment. They can also be forged to give additional bonuses. For instance, a crafted glyph will boost the chances of upgrading its target, and the boost upgrade can boost the defense or attack quality of a weapon or armor.

Selecting an upgrade template from the GUI will let you bind it to an item. It will display the list of upgrade components that the item can be upgraded to. You can also use the workbench for selecting an upgrade template. In either scenario, an item will be upgraded once enough upgrade components have been gathered.

Each component has its own experience multiplier. This determines the amount of experience an item can gain when upgraded with that component. For instance, organic components offer an experience multiplier that is higher than mechanical ones. You should upgrade your organic components first until you reach the next level in the weapon or equipment and then move on to mechanical upgrades.

In addition to the multiplier of experience, each item also has a maximum number of upgrades it can receive. The number of upgradeable items is determined by their upgradeable rank, and the kind of upgrade they are able to receive. The most powerful upgrade item is a weapon with the tier 10. However, the most commonly used upgrades for weapons are a tier 6 weapon and an armor upgrade of tier 5.

Sets

A set is a group of items which share bonuses. Each item can be upgraded at the minimum once. The upgrade increases the guaranteed bonuses. The first time you upgrade a set piece or weapon will give it an increase of +1 to its primary stat. On subsequent upgrades, the primary stats will be boosted a bit further (for example, +1 up to 12+/13+/14+), and each time you upgrade the item with an additional stats will be increased randomly.

Upgrades can also boost the base damage of a weapon. This may be important for certain builds. However, weapons are not upgraded to a higher maximum defense roll than their base. It is possible to increase the value of certain sets and unique items by upgrading them, but they're not always superior to a high-level Runeword.

If an item you're upgrading comes with a guaranteed bonus that is guaranteed, it can be rerolled only once and the guarantee will be reset to 0. Rerolling costs the same amount of power dice as the process of leveling an item up, but the new item upgrades will offer additional bonuses. Upgrading can be done through the NPC [Armor] Boboko in the Central Flarine. To upgrade an item, you will need a power die of each type (Dice 4 or 6 drop from monsters 21+ and Giants; Dice 7 drops from bosses) and the appropriate amount of Minerals and Erons. These are available at the crafting table or in the Ultra Collector and can be purchased using Gold. The NPC will also give a special reward for each completed tier of the upgrade process. This reward can be rerolled once and will use the same materials as the original item.

Rerolling

If a player has enough tokens for rerolling, they can reroll any item that they have acquired during the game. When an upgraded item gets rerolled, it will be exchanged for a level 1 version of the same item in another set. Reroll tokens are available from the store for small amounts of in-game currency, however they are not refundable. The new item upgraded will have the same benefits of the previous one however its stats will differ as well.

Players can change the identification of their equipment as well as rerolling it by interacting with an upgrader NPC. This will change the identification as a weapon to armor, or reverse it.
