Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The most effective way to upgrade your equipment in Path of Exile is through upgrade of your items. This lets you enhance your gear without having to rely on expensive drops or trades. This article will show you how to upgrade your items effectively.

Upgrades to equipment provide an additional bonus to the item's base stats. This bonus scales according to the rarity and level of the upgrade component.

Components

Upgrade components can make your armour and weapons better. You can get them from the destruction of enemies, finding them in spheres of items or purchasing them from karma sellers. You can also salvage them from equipment that has the components or through high-tier salvage kits such as Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components are not destroyed by removing them from an item.

The main purpose of upgrade components is to enable an item to be upgraded, but they also serve other functions. They can be stacked to increase the level or experience gained by upgrading existing weapons or gear. They can be forged for additional benefits. For instance, a specially created glyph can increase the upgrade chance of its target, while the boost upgrade can enhance the defense or attack quality of a weapon or armor.

Selecting an upgrade template in the GUI will allow you to connect it to an item. This will show the upgrade components to which the item upgrades can be updated. Alternately, you can use the workbench to select an upgrade template. In either scenario the item will be upgraded after enough upgrade components are gathered.

Each component has its own experience multiplier, which affects how much more experience an item receives when it is upgraded by the component. For instance, organic components have a a higher experience multiplier than mechanical ones. You should upgrade the organic components first, until you reach the next level in the weapon or equipment, and then switch to the mechanical upgrades.

Each item comes with a maximum upgrade number that is available for. The number of upgrades available is determined by its upgradeable rank and the upgrade type of the upgradeable item. For instance, the most expensive possible weapon upgrade is a weapon with tier 10. The most commonly used upgrade is a gun with tier 6 and an armor upgrade of tier 5.

Sets

A set is a collection of objects which all have the same bonus. Each item can be upgraded at minimum once. The upgrade will increase the amount of bonuses you can expect to receive. The first time you upgrade a set piece or weapon, it will receive a +1 increase to its primary stat. After subsequent upgrades, the primary stats will be increased even more (for instance the +1 bonus for 12+/13+/14+) and each time an item is upgraded one of its stats will increase randomly.

Upgrades can also increase the base damage of a weapon. This could be crucial for certain types of weapons. However, weapons cannot be upgraded to have a greater maximum defense roll than their normal base. It is possible to increase value of certain set and unique items by upgrading them, but they might not always be better than a Runeword with a high level.

If you are upgrading an item with bonuses it can be rerolled once, and its guarantee will reset back to zero. The same power die is used to reroll an item as it is used to upgrade it. However the new item comes with different bonuses. Upgrades can be made through the NPC [Armorthe ] Boboko in Central Flarine. To upgrade an item, you will require a power dice of each kind (Dice 4 or 6 drop from monsters 21+ and Giants; dice 7 drops from bosses) and the right amount of Minerals and Erons. These are available at the crafting table or in the Ultra Collector and can be purchased using Gold. The NPC will also provide a special reward for each completed tier of the upgrade process. This reward is rerollable once and will use the same materials used in the original item.

Rerolling

If a player has enough to reroll tokens, they are able to play rerolling any item they've accumulated during the game. When an upgraded item is being rerolled, it can be exchanged for an equivalent version that is level 1 of the same item in a different set. Reroll tokens can be purchased in the store for a small sum of in-game currency. They are not refundable. The new upgraded item will have the same bonuses of the first, but its stats will be different also.

Players can change the identity of their equipment as well as changing it's roll by interfacing with a NPC upgrader. This will change the identification from an armor to a weapon or vice versa, all the while maintaining its base stats and the attributes it requires. The change is permanent and will affect all characters who have the gear in question.

Players can also increase the level of their item on any equipped equipment by obtaining upgrade items and conversing with the upgrader NPC of the item.
