Combining form and function, French-door refrigerators come with elegant double doors that open up to an enormous fridge on top and freezer drawer below. Special features such as through-the-door dispensers, high-end ice machines and flex drawers that can be customized make them stand out from the crowd.

We consulted Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect and the founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the right one. They weighed the capacity of storage as well as layout, energy efficiency, and other features.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As its name suggests, GE’s Profile series is aimed at those who wish to integrate cutting-edge features in their kitchen. This fridge is loaded with them all from the Keurig K cup coffee maker on the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This refrigerator is costly and I was expecting better.

This refrigerator is a good choice, despite the small blip. It boasts a spacious freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth french door fridge australia door fridges, and it holds a fair amount of frozen food in comparison to similar models.

The fridge has 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment has 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is about the same as a French door fridge that costs this much. It has a decent sized freezer in the left side. But it's not the biggest one I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in each compartment to create a custom storage setup for what you want to store. The GE PYE22PYNFS's design for the interior is attractive, too. Its LED lighting is a nice touch and the storage bins come with a third shelf that folds up beneath itself to allow you to store tall items. The drawers have temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. The drawers are simple to shut and open, but I found the plastic's textured coatings to be a bit rough on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with the full suite of features you'd expect from a fridge at this price with Wi-Fi and app support through GE's SmartHQ software. The app is available on iOS and Android devices and allows you to control your refrigerator from any place in the globe. It also has a lot of customization options. It also sends you notifications when the door is left unlocked and when the freezer or fridge must be defrosted and when the filter requires a change.

It would be nice to have GE PYE22PYNFS offered Precise fill, an option that is available in a few GE refrigerators that allow users to choose the number of cups they would like to dispense. The fridge displays a countdown to reveal how much water is left but it's not as effective as Precise fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Designed to look as a seamless element of your kitchen Bosch's French-door refrigerator looks seamless and is a standout. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a veggie compartment that keeps fruits and vegetables fresher for longer, and dual compressors to preserve food items. The ice maker we tested was one of the most efficient, and it produces the shape of a pyramid using only water. This fridge is the perfect option for households with a single member or kitchenettes looking for a built-in look and top-of-the-line food preservation.

This fridge was rated the most efficient in our Refrigerators Test for a variety of reasons. The freezer temperatures remained steady at a level that was just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and never moving more than a fraction of one degree. This is crucial in preventing freezer burn. The refrigerator section of the refrigerator also did well. It reached the initial temperature set within an hour and remained at the temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch is known for its high-end appliances which is why it's no surprise that this counter-depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance that has the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi network and Bosch's Home Connect platform. This app allows you to monitor and control your fridge from your tablet or smartphone. The refrigerator is costly and has great features and capabilities at a reasonable cost.

While the fridge is an incredible appliance however, it is important to understand the limitations. It has a small shelf space, which means you'll need to be creative when storing tall items. The shelves aren't spillproof and can easily be damaged or stained by sharp items. It's simple to remove the trays from the fridge however, you must keep them clean to avoid the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth fridge is a great choice for those who require plenty of space in an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge has a standard french door fridge reddit-door layout with gallon-sized bins for the doors on each door as well as two rows of spill-capture shelves, and a set of crisper drawers. The top right shelf can be folded down to give tall items more headroom. There's also a full-width storage drawer for deli items and an internal water dispenser.

This refrigerator has a freezer with an ice maker, making it easy to transfer the frozen ice whenever you need it. The freezer features thoughtful design elements, as well, such as sliding drawers to help you better organize the position of your items. It also has a large bin that can accommodate plenty of frozen food items as well as an additional storage bin for ice.

Smart InstaView panel is a cool feature of the refrigerator. You can control the temperature, lighting and other aspects of your refrigerator from your smartphone. It's a simple way to keep track of your refrigerator and control it, particularly when you're not at home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat but it doesn't improve the efficiency of the fridge. The refrigerator took longer to chill food and defrost it than the other fridges we tried. This is likely due to its bigger capacity.

The doors pose a problem with this fridge. The handles with a sunken design allow shorter people to open them from the bottom. However, taller people still struggle to close them without slamming them. It would have been better if they had a front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a good option for those looking to combine the benefits of a french door refrigerator freezer-door refrigerator's aesthetics with a more efficient layout. It has a capacity that is superior to counter-depth models and is able to cool evenly. It's also less expensive than the best counter-depth refrigerator that has an ice maker, which can make it a popular choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a good choice when you're looking for a french door Fridge price door fridge that doesn't break the budget. It has a simple design that's not as visually striking as some of the competition but it does have enough features to make it a good choice. Its most notable feature is the adjustable temperature drawer, helps to keep food items such as meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also has a large water dispenser and a decent Ice machine that is fast.

Another feature that is worth mentioning is the "Chill Drawer" that sits above the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you redirect a portion of the refrigerator's cooling power directly into this area, meaning you can put away food items that require special attention. You can alter this feature using an adjustable slider that is located just in the middle of the drawer. You can also use this feature to set a general cooling setting for the entire fridge though I've found that adjusting the generic settings tends to be more effective than specific ones.

In my experiments, I noticed that the temperatures in the refrigerator were fairly consistent in different areas of the fridge. The temperatures in the top, bottom and middle of the fridge didn't differ significantly from 38 degrees. This is a pretty good performance, but it doesn't quite make it into the top ten in our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. The fridge can be linked with a smart thermostat in order to gain more precise information on the internal temperature of your fridge.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of grey-bodied stainless with a "smudge resistant" finish. It blocks streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've seen.
