WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item upgrader mod by +3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for the latter because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade items your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the gear being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that are used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next upgrade level, in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current item level. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player has upgraded to a certain item upgrader kit level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items come from another set of equipment.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available after certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item upgrader kit such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one use and it's crucial to use them properly. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to avail the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with top-quality gear.
