WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an Best item upgrade by 3. A random extra substat is also increased with every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the Best item upgrade is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased from item upgraders NPCs for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain the latest recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrades upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This applies even if the items are from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have a number of options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. They can choose to use Flightstones, which are a common upgrade currency that is accessible to everyone players, or crests that are more specialized and used to upgrade specific levels of the Item Upgrader Kit (Posteezy.Com). Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used on gear of a specific rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade item could require as much as 20 crests, contingent on the type or gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content that is of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they only have one use. It is recommended to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
