Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a good deal for those whose office or home has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and an automatic vacuum and mop bin for emptying. It's the best robotic mop and vacuum robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it also learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that appears like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models, this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it will cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

It also mops with one pad that has an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
