What is an Item Upgrader in Pokemon Go?

Certain items come with inherent boos that are less effective when upgraded, like the Goldwrap which gives additional slots for potion. These are usually upgraded to inject more value into the perfect or nearly perfect item.

Costs

Upgrades are accompanied by a few associated costs. The first is the cost for the upgrade. The cost is based on the item's new ilvl and the number of perks it receives and can be costly. Upgrades to higher levels (such as Explorer to Champion or Veteran to Heroic) can be expensive.

The other is the cost of materials required to upgrade. These are typically Power Dices (dropped from monsters 21+), Minerals and Erons or specific Mists of Pandaria or Warlords Of Draenor Quests. The amount of these items needed can be found in the inventory of an upgrade vendor.

Upgrading an item is an intricate process that requires time. Based on the magnitude of the upgrade, it can take anywhere from 8 to 12 hours. The upgraded item's base stats are calculated based on the item's new ilvl bonuses, perks, and other properties. This calculation determines the updated Armor Class bonus, damage dice, and other crucial statistics. In certain cases an upgrade may grant additional perks. These perks are offered in a list.

Rarely, the benefits acquired will cost more than one perk slot to acquire In these instances, the upgrade will only replace the perks with the highest cost. Sometimes, the upgrader will make other changes to an item, like changing the damage type of a weapon or adding or removing an unwieldy or operative property. The cost for these modifications is determined by the new ilvl of the item, and it may require a special substance, such as adamantine alloy.

Success Rate

This item is useful when you own an item or weapon equipment that is at the maximum level for its tier or is close to it. It will let you upgrade the equipment to the next level without having to worry about breaking.

If an upgrade is unsuccessful it will be restored to its previous state. This is usually a break, but can also be an upgrade. Keep an upgrade in reserve until you're close to the highest level for an item upgrader kit.

There are several items in the Kafra shop that can be used to increase the likelihood of a successful upgrade.
