WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item upgrading has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for the latter due to the need to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item level upgrade is upgraded to a certain level it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via various methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to that level will cost less even in the event that they are part of a different gear set.

The discount applies to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complex can require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities, or by completing dungeons and raids in all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons that have a high difficulty to obtain endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrading upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one use, so it's important to use them wisely. It is Best item upgrade to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear that you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
